I have a name for the first bird that sings us awake in the summertime – “First Bird”!
Every summer seems to bring a new “First Bird”. A few years ago it was this Carolina wren. I loved waking up to his very melodic song. Then we had a very bad winter. I was seeing my wrens throughout the harsh, bitter cold temperatures and seemingly continual snowfall. I was so happy to to spot them after every cold snap and snowstorm. As winter moved slowly to spring, my wrens disappeared. I was heartbroken, but I was happy that I had taken many photos of them including this moment when “First Bird” was singing in the day!
